World Breastfeeding Week-Aug 2015


To embark and highlight the importance of breastfeeding i.e. (1 August -7th August), Swift Institute of Nursing organized an awareness event at AP Jain Hospital, Rajpura. Students of GNM I year under the guidance of teachers organized this event.

During the week, different aspects of breastfeeding-importance, expression, methods, kangaroo mother care, and expressed breast milk were emphasized. Health education materials i.e. chart, and pamphlets were displayed, and group of antenatal and postnatal mothers were gathered and education was given.

During the session, queries of the mothers were answered and proper technique of the breastfeeding was also demonstrated. Recent techniques i.e. breast crawl and KMC were also highlighted. The efforts of the organization were applauded by the Medical Superintendent.

Awareness Event (Kukh Ton Dunia Tak Da Safar)


An awareness event was organized at village Ghaggar Sarai by the community health nursing department on 31.03.2015. On the day, women were invited at Anganwadi center. The emphasis of the event was on antenatal care. A role play depicting the transition during the antenatal period was beautifully enacted by the GNM III year students and it was titled "Kukh Ton Dunia Tak Da Safar". The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Surinder Jaspal(Principal SION), Dr. Neerja Shukla (Professor) and other faculty members. During the event, charts on diet of antenatal mother, flash cards on antenatal exercises, and immunization schedule for pregnant women were displayed for the awareness of the local folks.

Workshop Report


Swift institute of nursing in collaboration with klimb and Kare partners has conducted a simulation workshop on Critical Care Nursing Excellence on 4th December, 2014. Fifty five participants have enrolled for this workshop.

The session started at 9:30 AM with a warm welcome of all dignitaries and participants. Mrs. Vinesh Sharma, Nursing Director kare Partners has briefed on Critical Care Nursing followed by lamp lighting. The first half session is commenced by the lecture of Dr. Gagandeep kaushal, MD in Anesthesia, PGI and head of critical care in kare partners on Endotracheal Intubation. Dr. Gagandeep conducted an eminent practical session also on how to intubate a patient.

The next practical session was conducted by Mrs. Vinesh Sharma on CPR. Mrs. Vinesh Sharma took the CPR according to the new AHA guidelines which was great and useful information to the students on how to do the CPR.

Followed by the practical session on CPR, students attended the class of how to read ECG both normal and abnormal rhythm and how to put on intravenous line.

Dr. Gagandeep demonstrated to the students about how to defibrillate a patient, central venous line intubation and also explained regarding the nurses responsibilities when the patient is in a central venous line, defibrillating the patient, airway practice, catheterization.

Each student had hands on training in each session which have aroused their knowledge and skills and therefore position themselves for appropriate recognition and develop a critical sense of confidence in critical care nursing.
